Mike Andrews, the founder of Ideal Barber in Grant Park, Atlanta, Georgia, is a seasoned Master Barber renowned for his precise and professional grooming services. He has created a barbershop environment that caters to busy professionals, emphasizing time management and customer satisfaction. Building on this success, Mike developed the Amplify program to help barbers and stylists unlock their potential and increase their annual revenue​. 

It covers key areas such as content marketing, pricing strategies, business structuring, mindset development, client retention, and enhancing haircut quality and efficiency​.

HOW Mike DETERMINED he NEEDED HELP WITH his ONLINE COURSE creation

Mike faced several challenges with his existing Amplify program. His primary goal was to increase student engagement and course completion rates, ensuring that more students would not only start but finish the course. He wanted the course to have the prestige and depth of an MBA program tailored specifically for barbers and stylists. Additionally, Mike sought to understand the rationale behind any changes I made to his program, emphasizing the importance of learning from the process to improve the program continuously​.

These challenges directly influenced the shop's ability to transform barbers into high-value consultants. Without high engagement and completion rates, the program couldn't fulfill its promise of increasing students' revenue by 35% within a year.

Course Audit and Revamp

I reviewed Mike's Amplify program in detail to find areas for improvement. Key improvements included:

  • Action-Oriented Approach: Transitioned from theory-based content to action-oriented lessons, providing clear steps for students to apply concepts in real time.
  • Enhanced Clarity and Engagement: Streamlined content to deliver maximum impact, making it easier for students to follow and implement.

These changes transformed Amplify into a structured, outcome-driven program, helping barbers apply lessons directly and achieve tangible results like increased revenue and client retention.

Online course ASSET design

I developed the following:

  • Google Doc Worksheets. These worksheets are super helpful for getting hands-on with the material and applying what they've learned. They make it easy for students to engage and implement learnings from the course.
  • Course Study Guide. This comprehensive course study guide covers all the lessons and modules in the 8-week program. This guide ensures students can easily track their progress through the modules, lessons, and any homework assignments. It also provides a clear overview of the resources available for each module, helping students stay organized and on task.
  • Enhanced Audio Clarity: Background noise removed and audio levels balanced for a better listening experience.
  • Streamlined Presentation: Removed 'ums,' pauses, and mistakes for a smoother, more professional delivery.
  • Interactive Elements: Introduction of engaging visuals and annotations to highlight key points.
  • Integrated Branding: Consistent use of brand colors, logos, and fonts to strengthen brand identity.

  • Basic Transitions: Standard cuts that could use more engagement.
  • Minimal Visuals: Few visual aids to support the content.
  • Lacking Brand Identity: Missing consistent branding elements.

BEFORE

Under my guidance, Mike refilmed his entire Amplify program to enhance its look and feel. The revamped course aimed to elevate the program's presentation, ensuring it matched the professionalism of an MBA-style curriculum for barbers and stylists. This transformation was crucial for improving student engagement and completion rates. 

By incorporating strategic adjustments in content delivery and visual aesthetics, the course now better reflects Mike's vision of an educational experience that equips barbers with the skills needed to increase their annual revenue and client satisfaction.

FIXING SPEAKING ERRORS

Sometimes mistakes happen during filming, like misspeaking. Fortunately, I can easily fix these issues. With my client's permission, I use AI (and this is the only time I use AI) to clone their voice and correct the spoken errors to reflect what they intended to say. For example, Mike needed a quick adjustment when he accidentally said "fashion designer" instead of "personal stylist." It was an easy fix!
